Where are the words?
This morning I opened my Google Reader and saw "All Items (361)" glaring back at me.
Fantastic, I thought. Lots of lovely blog posts to read as I have now set aside weekends to catch up with blog reading and Open University reading. It's the new streamlined, organised me (stop laughing at the back). Also, being slightly obsessive about organisation, I have my blogs divided into folders; Must Read, Random, Life & Style... and I scroll through them in order, soaking everything up.
This is what I am seeing at the moment:

Are we getting lazy with our blogging? What happened to the richness of words? Using words to describe an event or a scene or an achievement is an art form. I am in awe at the way in which people have the ability to arrange a few letters and spaces on a blank screen to transport me to a time or a place and make me feel like I am stood on the peripheral, watching their moment. Images are great to enhance the words but are we in danger of them taking over?
Are we regressing and turning blogs into digital picture books and aren't there blogs or blogging platforms dedicated to that already? Do we really not have enough time to sit down and read and write any more? It is so easy to upload an image and have immediate contact with your network of followers (blog, twitter, facebook) - the snapshot of today - but does a picture really speak a thousand words... and if it does, do you think I can submit two for my next assignment?
